Nature’s Therapy

The demands of everyday life can have us rushing around, being busy all the time, or at least it can feel like that. We spend more time watching television, streaming movies, on our phones and scrolling through social media, so much so that we have lost our connection with nature – but we can rediscover it.

Gardening, planting flowers, growing veg and walking amongst plants and flowers whilst taking in their scent and colour can help us to re-connect with nature. Take the time to slow down, breath in the air, touch the soil and the leaves, smell the flowers and watch as nature grows and develops.

Being outside in nature can help you to “step away” from worries or stresses, even if it is only temporarily. In green space we can sooth our souls and regain head space. Here are some tips to help you begin to feel the benefit of being in nature:

Step outside for 10 minutes in the morning

Take your tea / coffee with you and leave your phone in the house

Deeply breath in the air and listen to the sounds that are all around you

Try to isolate and identify different sounds – a bird chirping, the wind blowing through the leaves, people chatting nearby…..

Smell the air, the flowers, the trees, recent rain……..

Move around slowly and really look at your space/your garden

Breath deeply and enjoy your own presence at this moment.
